直訳：すべてを失うまで、自分を変える決心をしなかった。
意訳：すべてを失って初めて、自分を変える決心をした。

↓ 英語では not を早めに伝える傾向があるので……

直訳：大人になるまで、その言葉の意味がわからなかった。
